Seasonal Total: 104 Salmon/grilse, 68 Sea trout, 115 Finnock, and 550 Brown trout.

WEEK 12 – August 24th – August 30th

Summary: A better week. Conditions were mixed but generally reasonable, enough rain to keep levels steady and temperatures down. Fish are well spread and showing again in good numbers, particularly around the Loch Faoghail an Tuim (Loch One) boundary and in the Basin on Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (Loch Four), however, loch fish remain reluctant to take. The party each managed at least one salmon, including a first Scottish salmon for one guest and a first ever for another. Loch Charrasan gauge 3’ 0”.

Week: 12 Salmon/grilse, 4 Sea trout, 12 Finnock and 49 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (1), Bridge (4), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (1), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (Loch One) (1), Tail of The First Stream (1), First Stream (1), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (Loch Two) (1), Macleay’s Stream (1), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (Loch Three) (1), Loch an Easa Ghil (Stewart’s Loch) (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0), Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 100 Salmon/grilse, 65 Sea trout, 111 Finnock, and 543 Brown trout.

WEEK 11 – August 17th – August 23rd

Summary: Very much a week of two halves, warm and sunny with easterlies for the first three days, then south and south-west winds and heavy rain thereafter. Water temperatures are finally dropping. Fish are showing more interest, quite a few risen and lost, although that did not translate into fish landed. However, one guest who had travelled from Singapore (just for the first three days) was rewarded with his first salmon, this from the Long Pool. Loch Charrasan gauge 3’ 1”.

Week: 4 Salmon/grilse, 6 Sea trout, 11 Finnock and 25 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (1), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (1), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (2), Tail of The First Stream (0), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (2), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 88 Salmon/grilse, 61 Sea trout, 99 Finnock, and 494 Brown trout.

WEEK 10 – August 10th – August 16th

Summary: Mixed conditions, some decent wind at time, calm and midges at others. Rain came, often heavy but very localised – one day anglers on the lochs were soaked, whilst those on the Grimersta river remained dry. This was enough for a rise in levels, the Charrasan gauge from 1’ 11” to 2’ 7” by the end of the week. Fish however remain uncooperative. We are seeing them, including some fresh grilse but as tough to catch as we have ever seen. No immediate change in the forecast but hopefully things will wake up after some serious wind and rain.

Week: 0 Salmon/grilse, 1 Sea trout, 11 Finnock and 28 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (0), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (2), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 84 Salmon/grilse, 59 Sea trout, 88 Finnock, and 469 Brown trout.

WEEK 9 – August 3rd – August 9th

Summary: A team of experienced anglers from the Flyfisher’s Club approached the challenging fishing with determination and good humour. Fish here, but again not willing to take despite a variety of techniques, tactics, and fly patterns. Water levels steady after modest rain at the weekend. (Charrasan gauge 2’ 0”)

Week: 5 Salmon/grilse, 12 Sea trout, 10 Finnock and 41 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (1), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (0), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (1), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (2), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (1)

Seasonal Total: 84 Salmon/grilse, 58 Sea trout, 77 Finnock, and 441 Brown trout.

WEEK 8 – July 27th – August 2nd

Summary: A frustrating week but rods remain phlegmatic. Fish are in evidence, albeit not in great numbers. Much debate as to reluctance of fish to take; water temperatures (water warmer than the air); easterly winds; and falling water levels. A first salmon for one rod from Macleay’s. (Charrasan gauge 2’ 0”)

Week: 9 Salmon/grilse, 4 Sea trout, 12 Finnock and 44 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (1), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (1), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (0), First Stream (1), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (1), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (5)

Seasonal Total: 79 Salmon/grilse, 46 Sea trout, 67 Finnock, and 400 Brown trout.

WEEK 7 – July 20th - July 26th Summary:

A challenging week and a pity for a number of first time visitors to Grimersta. (Charrasan gauge 2’ 4”)

Week: 4 Salmon/grilse, 9 Sea trout, 10 Finnock and 33 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (1), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (1), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (2)

Seasonal Total: 70 Salmon/grilse, 42 Sea trout, 55 Finnock, and 356 Brown trout.

WEEK 6 – July 13th - July 19th Summary:

Given the height of water (Charrasan gauge 3’ 1”) we would have hoped for a better return – fish remain reluctant to take.

Week: 23 Salmon/grilse, 7 Sea trout, 5 Finnock and 13 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (1), Kelt (1), Bridge (4), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (1), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (1), Lower Battery (0), Battery (2), Jubilee (2), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (4), First Stream (1), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (3), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (1), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (1), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 66 Salmon/grilse, 33 Sea trout, 45 Finnock, and 323 Brown trout.

WEEK 5 - July 6th - July 12th Summary:

Lots of rain over the weekend, the Charrasan gauge going from 1’ 8” on the Saturday to 3’ 1” on Wednesday. However, despite the rainwater temperatures remain too high. All but one of the fish coming from the river and streams.

Week: 18 Salmon/grilse, 5 Sea trout, 26 Finnock and 118 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (1), Bridge (3), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (1), Lower Battery (0), Battery (3), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (2), Tail of The First Stream (4), First Stream (1), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (2), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (1), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 43 Salmon/grilse, 26 Sea trout, 40 Finnock, and 293 Brown trout.

WEEK 4 – June 29th – July 5th Summary:

Fish are coming into the system in growing numbers and water levels rising, albeit slowly (Charrasan Gauge 1’ 8 ½”). Salmon are coming to the fly and with a bit more water they will show more commitment!

Week: 10 Salmon/grilse, 3 Sea trout, 3 Finnock and 11 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (2), Bridge (1), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (1), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (1), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (3), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (1), Tail of The First Stream (1), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 25 Salmon/grilse, 21 Sea trout, 14 Finnock, and 175 Brown trout.

WEEK 3 – June 22nd – June 28th Summary:

Although loch conditions were at time seemingly perfect, low and very warm water meant fish were reluctant to take. Fish now ween as far up the system as Macleay’s but very quiet above that so far. Some heavy rain on the Tuesday has dampened the moor and hopefully water levels will now start to improve (Charrasan Gauge 1’ 4”).

Week: 8 Salmon/grilse, 12 Sea trout, 7 Finnock and 51 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (1), Bridge (2), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (3), Tail of The First Stream (2), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 15 Salmon/grilse, 18 Sea trout, 14 Finnock, and 167 Brown trout.

WEEK 2 – June 15th – June 21st Summary:

The week began with similar conditions to last, with hot sun and light easterly winds. However, a thunderstorm and torrential rain at the weekend freshened things up and slightly cooler conditions now prevail. (Loch Faoghail Charrasan Gauge 1’ 4”). Fish are entering the system and are evident in the lower pools and gathering on Loch One, particularly below the First Stream. Encouragingly there are large shoals showing in the sea loch.

Week: 4 Salmon/grilse, 5 Sea trout, 7 Finnock and 42 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (1), Bridge (1), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (2), Tail of The First Stream (0), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 7 Salmon/grilse, 6 Sea trout, 7 Finnock, and 116 Brown trout.

WEEK 1 – June 8th – June 14th Summary:

What a contrast to the equivalent week of last season. Low water (Loch Faoghail Charrasan Gauge 1’ 6”), bright sun and hot weather made fishing a challenge. A few fish are now entering the system, several fish were lost, and some are showing interest but a fish from the tail of the First Stream on the final afternoon saved the week! Heavy and persistent rain needed.

Week: 1 Salmon/grilse, 6 Sea trout, 0 Sea trout, 0 Finnock and 73 Brown trout for the week.

Fish from: Sea Pool (0), Kelt (0), Bridge (0), Major’s (0), Birkie Hue (0), Burn Foot (0), Tot Hole (0), Captain’s (0), Long (0), Island (0), Fraser Bird’s (0), Pople’s (0), Lower Rocky (0), Colonel Bradford’s (0), Upper Rocky (0), Benjie’s (0), Lower Battery (0), Battery (0), Jubilee (0), New (0), Outlet (0), Loch Faoghail an Tuim (0), Tail of The First Stream (1), First Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Charrasan (0), Macleay’s Stream (0), Calder (0), Hopps, (0), Bend (0), Sanderson’s (0), Loch Faoghail Chiorabhal (0), Loch an Easa Ghil (0), Loch an Fhir Mhaoil (0), Ford Stream (0), Loch Faoghail Airigh na h-Airde (0), Langabhat Faoghail Mhor (0), Langabhat Faoghail Bheag (0), Loch Langabhat Outlet (0) Loch Langabhat (0)

Seasonal Total: 3 Salmon/grilse and 73 Brown trout.
